Summer Brights….

It is the start of a new month, and we are introducing a new theme at the Sarah Hurley Challenge Blog

It is a fabulous time of year, and when the sun is shining, everything looks so vibrant. The summer flowers are just coming into bloom, the birds are flitting about and singing. I have tried to capture those feelings in this card, where I have used white embossing powder for all the outline to really make the colours stand out.
I wanted to use an 8×8 inch card blank to frame a 6×6 inch stamped image. I used an A4 sheet of neenah cardstock and marked out the 6×6 area in pencil. I wanted the colour and images to extended outside the area slightly, it gives a more random image when you eventually cut the image to size (is also protects the edges from fraying with all the colour tinting)
Just to give a brief explanation how this card was made, I stamped the wood grain stamp with versamark and embossed with clear powder, to resist the distress ink (peacock feathers) applied over the top.

I used a further two distress colours to colour tint the top half of the 6×6 area, for a rough representation of sky. When I was happy with the colour I then cut the 6×6 to size to see the area I had to embellish.
To add some subtle background texture to the sky I stamped and clear embossed a couple of clouds from Sarah’s Doodle Home Stamps (you can just see them in the photo).
To disguise the harsh divide line through the middle of the card, I stamped, and embossed in white powder  a border of flower clusters from Sarah’s Picnic in the Park (Personal impressions set). The stamp itself is a small cluster and I’ve repeat stamped it 6 times, rotating it a little each time. The used promarkers to colour them

Once coloured, the border was fussy cut along its length and cut to fit the width of the stamped card.

The bunting, also from the Picnic in the Park set, was stamped and embossed again in white powder, directly onto the card then coloured with the same colour palette.
To finish the card, I stamped and white embossed a doodle doll, and coloured her, again with the same colours and added a simple sentiment.
