Paper Piecing Patchwork and Embossing

Good Morning, I thought I would share with you the cards that I currently have featured in the current edition of Die-cutting Essentials magazine, issue 3. My brief was to show the versatility of embossing folders. using paper piecing patchwork techniques, along with embossing  I created a card that looks like a patchwork block

I drew inspiration for my first card from the quilting books that I have on my book shelf. I cut the paper pieces and assembled the patchwork pattern first, and then realised one of the embossing folders I have from Crafters Companion – Die’sire Embossalicious Geometric Motif (8 x 8 inch), was the perfect size to add the quilting pattern.

For those of you who don’t sew, a handmade quilt is made up by a sequence of patchwork blocks very much like the paper version I have made here (made onto an 8 x 8 inch card blank). Once the material pieces have been patch-worked together, you layer the block onto some soft wadding, and them onto the backing material. You then sew patterns/quilt through all three layers, it is this process that finishes a quilt, and allows the quilt to look puffy in some areas.

You can see in this photo just how suited the Die’sire Embossalicious folder is to this quilted style card.  If you are able to get your self a copy of the magazine, I have provided full instructions of how to make this card, including all the measurements for each of the patchwork pieces you need.

You will also notice that also feature in the magazine are other patchworking examples, the main one from none other than Sue Wilson, showing us the versatility of her gorgeous Creative Expressions Striplet Quilted blocks.

There is also a tutorial on how to make a summer quilt……perfect.

So ifyou do manage to get yourself a copy and are inspired to try some patchwork, either of the paper or material variety, leave your link in the comments and i would love to head over and see it.

Thank you for taking the time to stop by today, see you again soon.
